ASIN AWARDS 2018
What a wonderful way to end another busy year of creativity and filmmaking. Our 8th annual ASIN Awards event attracted not only an increased audience but also a record breaking number of accepted entries and an astonishing number of votes and participation. Thank you to everyone who nominated, entered projects and supported the event.
This year we added three additional categories, Best Editor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress so the awards were contested in 16 categories.
The awards night was kicked off in showbiz style with Big Band singer Alan Western's rousing rendition of There's No Business Like Showbusiness and the mood was set for an entertaining evening.
Thank you to our MC, author Joanne Verikios and to each of our special guest presenters. It was great to have our two inaugural winners of best actor and best actress awards Craig Ingham and Pennyanne Lace join to present awards in those categories this year. Thank you also to Tracy Willow, Keith Kerwin, Bradford Walton, Julia Baker and Lynn Santer for being with us and presenting awards and ensuring the event was a great success.
We are also grateful to those nominees who travelled from fire affected central Queensland to be with us, it was quite a night!
It was a record breaking year for voting and number of projects entered and at last count we received over 35,000 votes through the website, and well over 2,000 votes in each category which is fantastic.
It is a credit to all to see so many new projects put forward each year, and to witness the genuine respect, support and appreciation our members have for each other and their work. The voting has come in from far and wide, and once again there have been some very closely contested categories.

AN EVENING WITH CHRISTOPHER ATKINS - 10th April 2015
Our first event for 2015 will long be remembered as we welcomed actor/producer/director/screenwriter Christopher Atkins to Queensland. One of our inaugural international members, Chris has visited Australia often and is currently sourcing facilities and cast and crew for 2 upcoming multimillion dollar projects to be filmed here that he is co-producing with fellow ASIN members, Brenda Papworth and Tony Bonner.
One project is an all ASIN creation that started with Gold Coast member, writer Maryanne Paterson entitled 'Lucky Valentine'.
Speaking candidly with our impeccable host for the event, Leon Delaney, Chris generously shared his experiences of the Hollywood industry spanning the last 35 years.
Our sincere thanks to Antony Condoleon who captured some moments from the evening in the clip below.

2014 ASIN Awards - 6th December 2014
The 4th annual ASIN Awards event welcomed nominees from far and wide this year to the Pacific Resort's Emerald Room. Guests travelled from Maryborough, the Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Adelaide, the Gold Coast and even Beijing to be there for the awards and to share in the activities. The enormous chandeliers in the Emerald Room reflected star points of light off the many elegant bejewelled outfits chosen for this year's theme of 'Puttin' on the Ritz'.
The evening commenced with a screening of powerful short film 'Driven By Love' written and produced by Renee Eaves. Talented young up and coming singer/songwriter, 15 year old Brayden Lindsay opened and closed the event to great acclaim.

2013 ASIN Awards - 6th December 2013
Last night as evening advanced into night, stars shone brightly across Moreton Bay and brighter still inside the The Artist Tree in Cleveland for the 2013 ASIN Awards.
The burlesque themed event started in style with a warm welcome to all from our irrepressible Master of Ceremonies Craig Ingham introducing the ‘Rogue Ballerinas’ who kicked off their stockings and kicked off the show.
Our special guest presenters Carla Bonner, David Gould and Paul Bishop added to the ambient atmosphere by generously sharing their experiences of the industry with liberal sprinklings of honesty, inspiration and good humour.
Huge thanks to Carla for joining us from Melbourne and David for travelling from New Zealand to attend the event.
We would like to extend sincere congratulations to all the nominees in each category – every year the votes are so close it becomes difficult to separate the winners from the nominees, there is never a clear cut winner in any given category, everyone receives loads of votes! This year one of the local film industry's unsung heroes was awarded 'Film Mum of the Year'. Brian Vaughan of Spirit Rider Productions generously sponsored and nominated this award and presented it to his chosen candidate Rachel Moore for her devotion and dedication to her own and other children's flourishing careers in film.
In closing, it was with great pleasure that we were able to present David Gould with this year’s
'Outstanding Career Achievement Award'.
David Gould is highly regarded not only by the powerhouses in the film industry in Australia and overseas, he is also as a supreme talent in our midst. David’s dedication and application to his chosen craft inspires each of us to push the boundaries, to strive to excel against the odds and continue to steadily pursue our individual dreams and passions within what is often a tough industry.
David is not only an inspiration to all of us; he is one of the nicest and most humble men we know.

Filmlink Event - Our 5th Anniversary 1st of June 2012
The elements were against us on a blustery, wet night, but the spirit of celebration and collaboration was not dampened at all as we gathered at the Icon to commemorate the 5th anniversary of ASIN.
We were delighted to see so many new faces at the event and the interactive entertainment by the group of actors 'It Plays to Move' induced lots of laughter and many unexpected and interesting twists.
Our special guest speaker Paul Bishop spoke about the importance of growing 'communities' within the arts and in all aspects of our lives, and as always provided intelligent insights and much food for thought.
Sincere thanks to Paul for sharing his vision and candid experiences with us and also to Mark Theodossiou and his band of players, Dominic Murphy and Ross McDonnell for 'playing with our shorts'.
Our thanks also for the many kind wishes and congratulations from members who were unable to be there on the night.
There are new innovations and plans afoot for ASIN in the coming months as we have identified the need for expansion into new territory for the benefit of all.
We are looking forward to the September event and the Awards Ceremony in December. Nominations are now open in a variety of categories and we encourage you to put forward those who you believe deserve to be recognized for their contributions in various forms to the growth and success of film making in Queensland and the rest of Australia.
As this important milestone now passes we warmly welcome our newest members and honour all of you who have supported us over the past five years, thank you for being a part of ASIN, and we look towards a bright and successful future for all.
The future is not a result of choices among alternative paths offered by the present, but a place that is created - created first in the mind, intention and will, created next in activity. The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating together. Happy 5th Birthday to all!

Filmlink Event - 2nd of March 2012
Our first Filmlink event for 2012 brought together around thirty new and exisiting members to network and showcase some of their work.
Our guest presenters on the night included writer and film maker Ged Maybury who screened a trailer and a music video of his most recent work 'Across the Stonewind Sky' to great acclaim. Members of Ged's cast and crew attended the event in full costume raising a few quizzical eyebrows from diners and party goers at the venue! Ged is very passionate about his work and justifiably proud of his cast and crew who helped bring to life characters from his book and give voice, music and life to the song he wrote. We are all looking forward to future developments with this project and the creative input from Ged's merry band of Steampunks.
We were given an overview of the newly established AFA (Australian Film Academy) on the Gold Coast by one of ASIN's award winners and AFA founder, Maryanne Paterson. The concept is very exciting and the courses and benefits on offer will be of interest to many of our members.
Actor Aash Aaron also took the mic for a question and answer session offering his insights and experiences with independent film making, script writing and acting with us.
We were also given a treat with the latest offering from extremely talented up and coming film maker Noel Evans with a screening of his new film which proved to all there that Noel is definitely one to watch!
Our thanks to all of you who came along, particularly to our guest speakers and presenters, and also to Nerida Marshall of S.T.A.R.S. on the Gold Coast, Mark Theodossiou from the Australian Actor's Network and to poet and public speaker Sean O'Nertney for joining us.
We look forward to seeing you all again on the 1st of June at the next Filmlink event.

Filmlink - 1st March 2012
With a hint of Spring in the air and a gentle harbour breeze carrying the musical stylings of everyone's favourite performer Matt McDowell aloft, we welcomed members and guests to the Icon once more for another successful Filmlink event.
Guest speaker Lin Sutherland travelled up from the Gold Coast to share her stories and latest projects filmed in some spectacular locations around the globe. We were each reminded that our natural world is alive with beauty and wonder, and that it is important for both our peace of mind and our enthusiasm for life, to explore the world we live in and to care for the earth and all living things in whatever capacity we have at our disposal. Lin Sutherland’s films and adventures reawaken a sense of awe and appreciation for our planet, and encourage each of us to live in greater harmony with it.
We also discovered secret talents amongst some of our number who took to the microphone for some impromptu song and dance!
It was a fantastic night with many opportunities to catch up on everyone's new ventures and projects and to share information and make new friends. Many thanks to all who joined us, especially Matt and Lin and we look forward to seeing you in December for the ASIN Awards night.

Filmlink - 1st of June 2011
We would like to thank guest speaker Caroline Russo for joining us at Filmlink and for sharing her insights into the PR industry and what she is currently working on. Her projects include a great new music video that was screened for the assembled group to much acclaim.
Caroline stressed the importance of marketing and having a promotion plan in place for new projects and individuals in the industry to get noticed and get your message across.
After some speed networking opportunities, young Brisbane based film maker Zach Shanahan Jansen screened his short film ‘Soul Plant’ featuring ASIN’s Brad Higgins and also presented his winning ‘Star Wars’ inspired short film featuring some very impressive effects, and we were happy to welcome the actors from both films at the event.
Congratulations to Gold Coast based screenwriter and producer Maryanne Paterson on having three of her screenplays under option at the moment – a fantastic result.
Many thanks to all who joined us on the night; and we look forward to seeing you all again in September.

Filmlink Kicks off in 2011 - 2nd of March
What a great start to a new year of Filmlink events and the Australian Screen Industry Network!
Last night’s featured guest speakers did not disappoint the assembled crowd delivering their spin on the industry based on personal experience and the projects that have helped advance their careers.
Tired of the fast paced, high pressure lifestyle in Sydney, actor/producer Andrew Windsor has recently made the move northward to Queensland and is now resident on North Stradbroke Island, a decision that he feels has been one of the best he has made in recent years. Andrew spoke of his journey into taking a role both in front of and behind the scenes in the successful Australian feature film, “The Nothing Men” alongside fellow actor Colin Friels using innovative new technology - the RED One Camera. “The Nothing Men” was a freshman venture for Alchemy Film Productions, and stands as a historic piece of work, representing the first full length feature filmed entirely on a RED One camera in the southern hemisphere, and was Andrew’s first foray as a producer. He also played a main character in the film.
Lovable larrikin, and larger than life Aussie icon of the small screen and the football field, Mark ‘Jacko’ Jackson was also a featured guest speaker at the event whose stories of his life and career both inspired and entertained everyone with his own brand of straightforward comedic timing, before handing over the microphone to another local success in the film industry, stuntman Ian Lind.
Ian grew up on North Stradbroke Island and honed his courage and skills from an early age with acts of daring and danger before leaving his island home in his mid teens. Ian went from being a motorcycle mechanic to stunt motorcycle rider on the show circuit and later pushed the boundaries of stunt training in Australia for feature films and television throughout a very notable career. Ian has worked on a plethora of productions from Mad Max to the Matrix and his expertise is still much sought after as a stunt co-ordinator. Ian has also recently returned to the Redlands area and lives on his boat on Moreton Bay in between assignments.
Our sincere thanks to the irrepressible Jacko for joining us and also to Andrew and Ian whose generous insights and amusing anecdotes made the event an enormous success. We are returning to the Icon Bar on the 1st of June with another great line up of speakers and guests, and we hope to see you there!
Filmlink Feedback:

Final Filmlink for 2010 - 1st of December at the Icon
It was an interesting blend of the voice of the future and the voice of experience in our lineup of speakers at this event. Editor of the Griffith University Screen Society's new Spectrum magazine Kathryn Stumpf, spoke of the aims and aspirations of fellow students and their hopes for a future in the industry. We were also all very impressed with young student film maker Mitchell Bishop's short film which demonstrated the elusive quality of seeing life through a lens with a very discerning eye. Mitchell has won several awards for his short films and shows tremendous promise for a career in film making.
Gold Coast based director Phil Avalon also screened a trailer of his latest project 'The Stolen', a fantastic Australian film based on the legend of Billy Sing. Our thanks to Phil for so generously sharing his expertise, sense of humour and wealth of experience with us.
Our guest speaker, actor Paul Bishop enthused, enlightened, and inspired everyone with a rousing and eloquent speech about the state of the industry and the collective direction that we are heading in over the coming years. His passion for his art, and for the sustainability of the production of film and television in this country, was very evident and posed some interesting questions in all our minds.
We were also treated to some outstanding entertainment from Matthew McDowell and new rising star Abby Skye and Powermouth Entertainment, Marketing and Promotion's Randy G.
Our thanks to all of you who joined us for the last Filmlink night of the year and we hope to see you all again in the new year.
Have a safe and Happy Christmas and we wish you all a very prosperous and successful 2011.

FINAL FILMLINK FEEDBACK:
Thank you Lynne and Brenda for a wonderful night.
Filmlink 2010 Christmas Special - what a way to end an amazing year. It seems to me these nights keep improving. From who we get as guest speakers, to what they have offer in their talks to the food and now we even have entertainment. Matt and his cool tones gave the night an atmosphere of sophistication. Paul Bishop was as inspiring as a winning team's sports coach, cheering us on to greater things. Phil Avalon brought the trailer to his new movie, 'The Stolen'. A must see I believe. Randy G and her exceptionally talented friend Abby Skye rocked the house. All in all, if ASIN and their Filmlinks keep going in this direction of quality there's no stopping them. In a word BRILLIANT!! The best night ever.
2011 looks set to scale new heights, build on good foundations, challenge the status quo and shake the general perceptions of the film and entertainment industry in Queensland to the core. So, if you are not on board this train of success in the new year, you're going nowhere. From the networking that has been going on, careers are being made. This trend will continue to gather strength and grow ever more as we add to our number. Join us or if you have please keep coming. All are welcome.
That being my piece, a very merry Christmas to all and look forward to seeing more of you in the new year. 2011, the year of the Dynamic Encounter.

Filmlink Night 6th October, 2010
As the last colours of sunset illuminated the sky over Raby Bay Marina, music filled the air at the Icon Bar & Bistro and our Filmlink night was under way. Entertainer Matthew McDowell sang the songs of Sinatra to kick the night off in showbiz style, and our special guest speaker Tony Bonner shared inspirational insights into his incredible body of work and hugely successful career in Australian film, television, radio and theatre.
The award for the best short comedy film was presented to the ever supportive Leon Delaney in our inaugural LMAO Short Comedy Film competition. The two finalists entries were screened before a screening of Leon's film 'God Bless Daddy' featuring Penny Hoffman and Craig Ingham.
We would like to thank Geoff Mullins for taking the microphone and being a part of the proceedings and to Jan Murray for joining us. Many thanks also to Paul and the staff at Icon for making this Filmlink night one of the most enjoyable events of the year. As always our most sincere thanks to all of you who came on the night for your continued support and enthusiasm for developing a strong network for all of us now, and for those to follow in the future.

Filmlink Night 2nd of June 2010
After days of rain and with the chill of winter in the air, the second Filmlink night for this year saw only the intrepid few head out into the elements to join us at the Carindale Hotel. What unfolded was an enlightening and enjoyable round table discussion headed by our very special guest speaker, producer Trish Lake from Freshwater Pictures. Trish had only just touched down at home in Brisbane after a busy and very productive trip to the film market of Cannes and then to the Dungog Festival, and we were very grateful that she was able to spend the evening with us and share her experience and insight into the film industry.
Trish's invaluable advice and support was of enormous benefit to all of us. Our other guest speaker, Lynne Sturgess, a finance expert from Precision Loans, brought to the table a fantastic idea for a co-operative film funding venture which is both exciting and innovative and given enough support, could be a new solution to the old problem of finding money for Australian films. We will be sending out more information on Lynne's 'Creative Cash Connections' idea to those who were unable to be there for their consideration and participation.
We thank Gold Coast based director Phil Avalon for making the time to join us at the table, and welcome media consultant Geoff Mullins to the group. To all of you who braved the elements to make this night a great success, many thanks for your company and contributions. See you all again in August!
Filmlink Night 31st of March 2010
Our first Filmlink Night of 2010 was held in the Courtyard Room of the Carindale Hotel and members and guests came from as far as Sydney and the Gold Coast to participate in the fun! Our guest speaker was young up and coming Australian actor, Palmer Marchese who shared his journey towards success so far with us all. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces in the room and to welcome some new ones. As always the room was abuzz with exciting new projects, great energy and relaxed and beneficial networking.
Our thanks to you all for coming and contributing to the ongoing aspirations of the Australian Screen Industry Network and it's members - and we look forward to seeing you again on the 2nd of June.

Final Filmlink Night for 2009
In a glittering finish to an exciting and progressive year, our final Filmlink night was well attended by our members and what a fantastic night it was!
Everyone in attendance would agree that rubbing shoulders with our wonderful friends, celebrities Tony Bonner, Phil Avalon and Tony Murphy added to the success of the evening. Tony Murphy was the perfect host and MC, whose quick wit and charm kept the repartee rapid and elicited an interesting stream of anecdotes from both director Phil Avalon and iconic actor Tony Bonner, who shared their experiences generously and graciously as always.
Our thanks to everyone who is making the Australian Screen Industry Network stronger each year and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2010!
